Independent members make up a majority of the membership of universities’ governing bodies and so play a highly significant role in university governance. Institutions are highly appreciative of their service.

The Scottish Code of Good HE Governance requires that all vacancies for independent members of governing body are advertised externally. This is a compliance requirement all institutions adhere to. In addition to this website, vacancies will be advertised on institutions’ own websites and may appear in local press, in specific trade press and websites.
